Singapore Tour Day Three
Singapore Tour - Day 3
We woke up early because of the buffet breakfast and to start preparing for our next destination which is Science Center in Singapore. We were introduced to our activity for the day which is to make a robot. The robot is called “robo-robo”. here is a short history of robotics. :)
HISTORY OF ROBOTICS
Historical Robotics
Many sources attest to the popularity of automatons in ancient and Medieval times. Ancient Greeks and Romans developed simple automatons for use as tools, toys, and as part of religious ceremonies. Predating modern robots in industry, the Greek God Hephaestus was supposed to have built automatons to work for him in a workshop. Unfortunately, none of the early automatons are extant.
In the Middle Ages, in both Europe and the Middle East, automatons were popular as part of clocks and religious worship. The Arab polymath Al-Jazari (1136-1206) left texts describing and illustrating his various mechanical devices, including a large elephant clock that moved and sounded at the hour, a musical robot band and a waitress automaton that served drinks. In Europe, there is an automaton monk extant that kisses the cross in its hands. Many other automata were created that showed moving animals and humanoid figures that operated on simple cam systems, but in the 18th century, automata were understood well enough and technology advanced to the point where much more complex pieces could be made. French engineer Jacques de Vaucanson is credited with creating the first successful biomechanical automaton, a human figure that plays a flute. Automata were so popular that they traveled Europe entertaining heads of state such as Frederick the Great and Napoleon Bonaparte.
Victorian Robots
The Industrial Revolution and the increased focus on mathematics, engineering and science in England in the Victorian age added to the momentum towards actual robotics. Charles Babbage (1791-1871) worked to develop the foundations of computer science in the early-to-mid nineteenth century, his most successful projects being the difference engine and the analytical engine. Although never completed due to lack of funds, these two machines laid out the basics for mechanical calculations. Others such as Ada Lovelace recognized the future possibility of computers creating images or playing music.
Automata continued to provide entertainment during the 19th century, but coterminous with this period was the development of steam-powered machines and engines that helped to make manufacturing much more efficient and quick. Factories began to employ machines to either increase work loads or precision in the production of many products.
The Twentieth Century to Today
In 1920, Karel Capek published his play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots), which introduced the word “robot.” It was taken from an old Slavic word that meant something akin to “monotonous or forced labor.” However, it was thirty years before the first industrial robot went to work. In the 1950s, George Devol designed the Unimate, a robotic arm device that transported die castings in a General Motors plant in New Jersey, which started work in 1961. Unimation, the company Devol founded with robotic entrepreneur Joseph Engelberger, was the first robot manufacturing company. The robot was originally seen as a curiosity, to the extent that it even appeared on The Tonight Show in 1966. Soon, robotics began to develop into another tool in the industrial manufacturing arsenal.
Robotics became a burgeoning science and more money was invested. Robots spread to Japan, South Korea and many parts of Europe over the last half century, to the extent that projections for the 2011 population of industrial robots are around 1.2 million. Additionally, robots have found a place in other spheres, as toys and entertainment, military weapons, search and rescue assistants, and many other jobs. Essentially, as programming and technology improve, robots find their way into many jobs that in the past have been too dangerous, dull or impossible for humans to achieve. Indeed, robots are being launched into space to complete the next stages of extraterrestrial and extrasolar research.
——
The process of creating is a little bit hard because you need to have a lot of patiance, you need to be sure on which part you’ll use because the robot might not work properly and it may take all of your time working on it.
The next thing is programming the robot, programming the robot has it’s own program which is a little bit easy because we are not using codes but instead we only are doing some drag and drop to code the movement of the robot. we need to do it step by step until we are done.
Lastly we had a mini battle on which robot is the better on pushing a bottle of water. Our robot is a bit prepared because we had a bumper to control the bottle on rolling on the field, but too bad we lost on the second round of the battle.
After the Science Center in Singapore. We had our own free time that day, we decided to go swimming on our hotel because it’s free. After we had a little bit of swimming at around 7:30PM we went to Singapore Flyer which I think is near Marina Bay. That time is the they had a festival about Chinese New Year and we had a great view on the Singapore Flyer. Then after riding the Singapore Flyer we had our very late dinner in Makansutra Gluttons Bay. after eating dinner we went back to our hotel and had some drink because it’s our last day in Hotel Royal and we wanted to have some fun. :)
Singapore Tour Day Two
Singapore Tour - Day 2
2nd Day in Singapore! Buffet Breakfast in Hotel Royal, this time I ate lots of food because food in Singapore is very is expensive. After eating at aroung 7:30 we need to go to our next destination which is Microsoft Technology Center.
Microsoft Technology Center
Microsoft Technology Center in Singapore has a building of its own. First thing we’ve done is to we had a tour around the Microsoft Center. They introduced different devices and PC’s to us and it was so cool because some of the devices are new to me and I was so amazed.
Then we had a seminar which we got three speakers but I forgot the speaker’s name. They all talked about Microsoft, first speaker talked about the how they help other people in other countries thru scholarships. The second speaker introduced the Windows Phone which is cool because it can almost do a personal computer can do, the third speaker talk about how IT works and how IT earn and how Microsoft Certifications affect the persons job. After the seminar we had pictures inside the Microsoft.
Universal Studios Singapore
Universal Studios Singapore is located in Sentosa Island, Singapore.
Universal Studios Singapore is Southeast Asia’s first movie theme park. It is like Enchanted Kingdom here in the philippines but the difference is very far.
It was raining that time but good for us the rain stopped pouring. We first went to the Madagascar, the ride in madagascar was like you’re watching the real movie while riding on a cart. It was fun because there’s a fake waterfalls, we thought that we will be wet but when the cart approached the waterfalls it split into two. Thank God! :))
Next we went to Far Far Away where Shrek and his friends live. We found our other classmates and decided to join their group. We rode the junior roller coaster and felt nothing. :)) then we decided to go to Shrek 4-D Adventure where we watched the Shrek movie continuation. We had fun while the sit is moving and while the water is pouring over us. Haha :))
Next is we went to the Lost World in Jurassic Park. We rode the dino’s but this ride made me dizzy because we are all going on circles. after that, we had a very wet adventure in Rapids Adventure because of the waves of the water we all got wet thanks to the ride my shoes are wet! HAHA :))
Next stop is in Ancient Egypt where we had a very exciting ride called Revenge of the Mummy, i think this ride is my favorite ride because you’ll never know what will happen next. :))
Next is the Sci-Fi City where we rode the Battlestar Galactica which made me scared because of the loops, but after riding I felt like….. ONE MORE ONE MORE! :)) It’s very exciting to ride the Cylon than in Human :)) I think Cylon is the blue one :)) Another is we experienced a roller coaster ride with 3D, it was the best ride ever! you guys must try riding the Transformers’ Roller Coaster. IT WAS THE BEST!
Last is we went to New York where we found the Street Boys from our country Philippines. They are still great dancers like before..
——-
I had fun while I was in Universal Studios Singapore. It was the best experience that I won’t forget until I die. I will surely come back to the theme park VERY SOON :))
Singapore Tour Day One
Singapore Tour - Day 1
It’s my first time to be on a trip with my classmates/schoolmates a tour to Singapore, which i didn’t know what to do, i was just doing what others are doing. I was a copycat that day because I really didn’t know what to do. I was nervous because I might do something wrong which will cause me not to join the IT tour. HAHA :)) It’s also my first time to be on a plane which I am very nervous because everything is new to me.
It’s my first time to be on a different country like Singapore, it’s a bit different from our country Philippines because of different faces I see and I can’t see any dirt or pollution in their own country.
When we arrive at Singapore we were introduced to our tour guide and we immediately moved to our destinations which is China town which we had lunch break, little China is like divisoria here in the philippines there’s a lot of stuffs to buy in this place and it is really CHEAP! :D
After China town we went to Merlion Park which is Singapore’s famous tourist spot, which we had lots of pictures eventhough it is very hot but we had FUN!!
Next is we went to Little India and we went to a place like a temple(i forgot the name) but I was bored on the temple which made me want to go back to that bus and wait for my other classmates. after roaming around little India we now went to our Hotel.
We arrived at around 5:00PM and it was time to relax that they. We had dinner at Newton Food Center near Hotel Royal. After the dinner we take pictures of the place and went back to the hotel to have a good night sleep.
Thats how I spend my Day 1 :D
